Make a Plan for Camping In Autumn

Tags:

October and November are preferred months for fall camping as these months are near to the winter environment.

In the other months, snowing starts and these are not preferred for camping. The camper camping in these months feel, as if they are camping in winter season. The period of time in which the leaves start changing colors is the optimum time for Fall camping.

The fall season is not exactly winter or summer; it is an intermediate of both the seasons. The days are not too hot and the nights are not too cold. In this intermediate time, everyone loves outing.

Things to remember while fall camping:

Pack clothes: Pack layered clothes. This season can be fickle, sometimes it may be cold and sometimes it may sweat. So, make clothing arrangements for both the seasons. Pack some t-shirts and light jackets or clothes.

T-shirts add comfort for the camper and make him feel cool if the atmosphere is hot. The jackets provide warmth if the atmosphere is cold.

Different terrains: Be prepared for different terrains, the atmosphere can at once become dry and some times it may even shower. So, if you are camping in this season pack a pair of shoes suitable for both terrains. Tennis shoes and boots will be very useful in the fall camping.

Blankets: As you cannot estimate the climatic conditions in the fall season, pack several thin blankets.

If the climate is cold, you can combine these thin blankets and make a single warm blanket. If the climate is warm, you may not need many blankets and a single blanket will work.

Fall nights are not too cold and you may not need a heater or a generator to make the climate warmer. Carry your sleeping bag also, if the climate changes drastically you can step into the sleeping bag to get a warmer effect.

Swimming: The air in fall season can be cold, but the sun is hot enough to make the water hot. So, swimming is also an extra addition for campers camping in this season.

Swimming in winter is not preferred as water will be too cold and vice versa in summer. Add your swimming suit in your camping list if you go for fall camping.

Fluids: You cannot estimate the climate, so carry a mixture of hot and cold water. The day is hotter and the nights are cold. So, pack water and cool drinks for the day climate and pack coffee, hot chocolate and tea for the night.

The combination of these liquids will help the camper to get along the unexpected changes in the climate.

Activities: Take both indoor and outdoor activities in fall camping. If its cold outside, you can play indoor games, if the climate is in normal conditions you can play outdoor games.

Cards, charades, portable DVD, board games are perfect tent games. Sight seeing, boating, biking and hiking are preferred outdoor activities for autumn.

In this season, you can enjoy the glimpse of both the seasons. So, enjoy both the seasons at one time and capture beautiful camping moments

camping

Do not work so hard that you forget to company with your family.Go outside and draw up a plan to go camping. It is a good idea that you children must like going camping. But,we should konw some points which could make your trip more funny and safe.

General Outdoor Tips

The tent is the focal point of most camping trips. If you’re a beginning camper, there are a couple of different tent tips to remember. First and foremost, practice pitching your tent before you head to the campsite. Being able to do it quickly and effectively is extremely valuable. When looking for a place to set up, always look for a “natural bed” of soft, flat soil – but avoid the bottom of hills or valleys. Finally, always set up a tarp below your tent to avoid potential damage or water-logging.

Campers can also benefit from a few non-specific outdoor principles. Rule number one, no matter the time of year, is to dress in (or at least carry) layers. It’s the easiest and most effective way to control your body temperature. Secondly, learn how to use a GPS or map and compass. No matter how familiar you are with a certain wooded area, getting lost among acres of similar-looking trees is very easy. Finally, practice basic outdoor skills such using and sharpening a utility knife, tying various knots, and building a fire. It’s this knowledge that separates the amateurs from the seasoned campers.

What to Bring on a Camping Trip

With any luck, each camping trip proves to be a unique experience. There are many wonderful things that nature has to offer. But, no matter where you’re headed, a few things should always come with you. Below is the “short list” of camping essentials that should always be packed.

  • A Tent, Tarp, and Sleeping Bag
  • Plenty of water (get gallon sizes for cooking and cleaning)
  • Energy rich, easily prepared foods and snacks (think items like pasta, beans, ground beef, peanut butter, chicken, trail mix, and oatmeal)
  • Plenty of clothing (a good rule of thumb in temperate areas is enough for two to three layers daily)
  • A pot, pan, dishes, utensils, and fire-starting materials (preferably waterproof matches or a butane lighter)
  • A utility knife and length of rope
  • A tight-closing cooler to store your food items in
  • Hand sanitizer and soap
  • Optionally, outdoor gear like fishing poles and hiking equipment

How to Budget for a Camping Trip

Like most anything else, budgeting for a camping trip is easiest when you start big and work your way down. First, decide upon an amount you can afford, and make a resolution not to exceed it. Then, begin to factor in the larger expenses – things like food, gas, necessary equipment, and campsite fees. From there, work your way down to smaller items until you come close to the spending limit.

As that line is tested, you’ll have to make the nitpicky decisions that ultimately determine your trip’s bottom line. For instance, you could eliminate that traditional fast food stop on the way there in favor of pre-prepared sandwiches. Little decisions such as these tend to add up in the grand scheme of financial matters, especially when it comes to discretionary spending.

Now that you know the basics of camping, what to bring, and how to squeeze outdoor adventure into your budget, nothing is left to keep you from hitting the woods! Camp life is made easier by gaining experience and learning the tricks. Here are some great camping tips and advice to help make your camping adventures more enjoyable.

The Funny Game:Roller skating

Tags: ,

Can you roller skate?I can skate, but i am not a master.I can just skate forward, not backward.Absolutely, roller skating is a good form of outdoor sports.Next,i will give a detailed introduction for you.

Roller skating is the traveling on smooth surfaces with roller skates. It is a form of recreation as well as a sport, and can also be a form of transportation. Skates generally come in two basic varieties: quad roller skates and inline skates or blades, though some have experimented with a single-wheeled “quintessence skate” or other variations on the basic skate design. In America, this hobby was most popular in the 1970s and the 1990s.

History

When you consider the history of roller skating you must first trace back the origin of the first pair of roller skates. The first known roller skate was invented in London, England by a Belgium born man named Joseph Merlin. Merlin’s roller skate was not a quad skate, but rather an inline skate with small metal wheels. Consequently, Joseph Merlin was also an accomplished violinist and violin maker. In 1760, as the story goes, Joseph Merlin was invited to perform for an audience at a masquerade party at the prestigious Carlisle House Mansion in Sofo Square, London. Merlin’s intent was to impress the crowd by playing his violin while skating on his newly invented roller skates. The festivities were progressing quiet well until Joseph Merlin accidentally skated into an expensive mirror, breaking the mirror and his violin, and injuring himself. Needless to say Joseph Merlin’s performance did not successfully generate an enormous amount of interest in roller skating!

In 1819, nearly 60 years later, a Frenchman named Monsieur Petitbled invented, and officially patented his new roller skate design. Monsieur Petitbled’s roller skates were also in-line skates with three wheels made of wood, metal or deluxe ivory. Petitbled tried to sell the public the idea that a person could do anything on his roller skates that could be done on a pair of ice skates. Unfortunately for Monsieur Petitbled he was unable to convince a skeptical public, and his roller skates did not fair well on the market.

The next roller skate patent came in 1823 by an Englishman named John Tyers. John Tyers’ patented roller skate was known as the Volito. Tyers’ Volito roller skates consisted of five wheels in a line with the center wheel larger than the two wheels on either side. His roller skate design obviously required the skater to tilt the foot forwards or backwards to grip the surface for pushing off. Tyler’s Volito was also unique in that his design introduced the first roller skate brake. His roller skate’s brakes consisted of a metal toe stop in the front, and a metal stop in the heel; this allowed the skater to stop by leaning sharply in either direction. Unfortunately for John Tyers, and the sport of roller skating, his roller skates did not create a world-wide appreciation for roller skating. However, some of the expert ice skaters of the day proved that a skater could perform many of the same moves on his roller skates, that could’ve only been performed previously on a pair of ice skates.

By the 1860s the idea of roller skating had reached America, and in 1863 a young inventor named James Leonard Plimpton created a new, and superior type of roller skate. His roller skates allowed the skater to steer the skates in different directions. We would consider

Plimpton an out of the box thinker as he moved away from the known “in-line” roller skates of his day. He built his skate with two wheels in the front and two in the back, much like the quad roller skates you’d find today. Plimpton’s wheels were mounted on carriages that rotated when the skater’s foot leaned to one side or the other. This feature allowed for smoother turns, and significantly enhanced the skater’s capability to skate backwards. Lastly, Plimpton’s roller skates provided the skater a superior glide when compared to the other roller skates of his time.

James Plimpton did far more to promote roller skating than designing an outstanding roller skate. Plimpton built a large roller skating rink in New York City, and Newport, Rhode Island. He also made it easier for anyone to roller skate by leasing his roller skates to his customers. Additionally, Plimpton developed an effective system for teaching group roller skating lessons, and provided incentives by creating proficiency medals. In 1863 he founded the nation’s first roller skating association, the New York Roller Skating Association. He also hired Jackson Haines, a famous ballet dancer and excellent skater, to put on shows to help promote his roller skates and the sport as a whole. James Plimpton successfully changed the way people thought about roller skating, and is considered by some the founding father of modern day roller skating.

Over the years there were various improvements made to Plimpton’s roller skate; from the use of ball bearings, to the first all metal skate. However, it wasn’t until roller skates were mass produced near the end of the 1800s that the average working class person could afford them. During this period the price of a pair of roller skates dropped to half the price of Plimpton’s hand-crafted roller skate. The mass production of roller skates was most certainly instrumental in ushering in a whole new market and generation of skaters.

Quite naturally this generation of skaters began looking for new things to do on their roller skates. Artistic roller skating experienced a surge in popularity as a spin-off (no pun intended) of figure skating sometime in the 1880-1890s. Roller hockey began to be played on roller skates using the rules for field hockey; roller hockey was called polo at this time. Speed skating also quickly increased in popularity, and drew large crowds in New York and other large cities in the US and Europe.

Roller skating in all forms continued to become more popular and expand as a recreational pastime in the early 1900s. However, roller skating suffered a decline during and following WWI. After the war more people began driving cars, going to movie theaters and turning to other forms of entertainment. Roller skating experienced a surge during the Great Depression because it was relatively inexpensive, and more accessible to the average person. In 1937 the Roller Skating Rink Operators Association was formed; today we know it as the Roller Skating Association.

Roller skating steadily grew in popularity over the next three decades then exploded in the 1970s. In the 1970s roller skating was no longer considered by many as a mere recreational pastime, but rather a very cool thing to do!  It was during this time that roller skating and disco music teamed up to create a craze that captivated much of America. Thousands of roller skaters became involved in artistic, figure, dance, speed, roller derby, and freestyle roller skating. Various types of formal roller skating competitions were held, outdoor roller skating became very popular, and the public simply couldn’t get enough! The 1970s was definitely the decade for roller skating.

During the 1980s the roller skating craze waned significantly, but experienced a boost in the mid 1990s when inline skates hit the market full force. Inline skates allowed a far smoother ride outdoors, and became an instant hit with many ice skaters. Ice hockey players, in large numbers, also began playing inline hockey during the off-season. Inline skates also became extremely popular with many people that enjoyed skating for fitness. The ability to inline skate outdoors, over long distances, became a dream come true for fitness skaters all over the world. Lastly, aggressive and jump skating increased in popularity in the 1990s, and created yet another type of skater with its own unique culture.

Roller skating has come a long way since its introduction to world in the 1700s, and continues to grow and expand with new types of roller skates and roller skating activities. Today it is not uncommon to find people from all walks of life, enjoying various indoor, outdoor, inline, and quad roller skating activities. Roller skating has truly became a pastime, hobby, or sport that people of all ages can enjoy.

Benefits of roller skating

• Studies have shown that roller skating provides a complete aerobic workout and involves all of the body’s muscles, especially the heart.
• Roller skating is equivalent to jogging in terms of health benefits and caloric consumption, reduction of body fat, and leg strength development.
• Roller skating is recognized and recommended by the American Heart Association (AHA) as an aerobic fitness sport.
• Just one hour of moderate roller skating burns 330 calories for a 143-pound person. If that same person roller skates vigorously, he or she will burn up to 590 calories in an hour.
• The number of calories burned per hour while skating at 6 mph is 350 and 600 while skating at 10 mph.
• According to a study conducted at the University of Massachusetts, in-line skating causes less than 50 percent of the impact shock to joints compared to running.
• If someone roller skates one day, bicycles another, and swims or runs on another, the person will be getting all the fitness benefits that aerobics can offer.
• According to Dr. Carl Foster, associate professor of medicine at the University of Wisconsin Medical School, in-line skating as a form of exercise is as beneficial as running or cycling. (Information from International Inline Skating Association website)
• During a 30-minute period, on the average, in-line skating at a steady, comfortable rate expends 285 calories and produces a heart rate of 148 beats per minute.

How to Roller Skate

•The position of the feet is one of the most important considerations to make, at the time of roller skating. The feet should be in the’ V’ position i.e. the heels should be together and the toes far apart.
•As for your body, it should be in an upright position. Bending the back or curved legs are a strict no-no, as they might make you fall on the ground. Also, make sure that you look straight ahead, while skating.
•At the time of commencing skating, bend your knees slightly and spread out the arms, like airplane wings. This posture would help you achieve the right balance required for roller skating.
•Since you are a novice skater, do not plunge for the big thing. Start by taking small baby steps. Walk like soldiers in a march past. However, make sure that every time you place your feet back, they are in the position of the letter ‘V’.
•Once you get hold of the skates and are able to take the small steps easily, without any external help, it is time to try sliding. Slide by pushing your skate out to the side, not to the back, as in walking.
•If your feet are properly placed, you would roll/slide automatically.
•Once you have mastered forward skating, try it backwards. Backwards skating is very similar to forward, except that in this type, you keep your toes together and heels apart, in an inverse ‘V’ position.

Note: Since roller skating activity is primarily based on the balancing act, it is very important for you to wear elbow and knee pads. They would protect you from bruises and scratches.

Don’t stay at home, let’s go outdoor and experience the passion of roller skating!

Bungee Jumping——The Game Of The Brave

Tags: , ,

When you are standing in the 40 meters high places, both sides are Castle Peak and cypresses.Endless flowing river is under your feet, you have to jump from here after a few seconds. How is your feeling?Perhaps your heart beating violently, your legs are shaking hard, but after you jump, the satisfaction of falling is really exciting. And now ,you are the hero!

History

The word “bungee” originates from West Country dialect, meaning “Anything thick and squat”,as defined by James Jennings in his book “Observations of Some of the Dialects in The West of England” published 1825. Around 1930 the name became used for a rubber eraser. The word bungy, as used by A J Hackett, is “Kiwi slang for an Elastic Strap”.Cloth-covered rubber cords with hooks on the ends have been available for decades under the generic name bungy cords.

In the 1950s David Attenborough and a BBC film crew brought back footage of the “land divers” (known as “Naghol”) of Pentecost Island in Vanuatu, young men who jumped from tall wooden platforms with vines tied to their ankles as a test of their courage and passage into manhood.A similar practice, only with a much slower pace for falling, has been practised as the Danza de los Voladores de Papantla or the ‘Papantla flyers’ of central Mexico, a tradition dating back to the days of the Aztecs.

A tower 4,000 feet (1,200 m) high with a system to drop a “car” suspended by a cable of “best rubber” was proposed for the Chicago World Fair, 1892-1893. The car, seating two hundred people, would be shoved from a platform on the tower and then bounce to a stop. The designer engineer suggested that for safety the ground below “be covered with eight feet of feather bedding”. The proposal was declined by the Fair’s organizers.

Bungee at Kawarau BridgeThe first modern bungee jumps were made on 1 April 1979 from the 250-foot (76 m) Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol, by members of the Oxford University Dangerous Sports Club. The jumpers were arrested shortly after, but continued with jumps in the US from the Golden Gate and Royal Gorge bridges, (this last jump sponsored by and televised on the American program That’s Incredible) spreading the concept worldwide. By 1982 they were jumping from mobile cranes and hot air balloons.

Commercial bungee jumping began with the New Zealander, A J Hackett, who made his first jump from Auckland’s Greenhithe Bridge in 1986.[8] During the following years Hackett performed a number of jumps from bridges and other structures (including the Eiffel Tower), building public interest in the sport, and opening the world’s first permanent commercial bungee site; the Kawarau Bridge Bungy at Queenstown in the South Island of New Zealand.[9] Hackett remains one of the largest commercial operators, with concerns in several countries.

Despite the inherent danger of jumping from a great height, several million successful jumps have taken place since 1980. This is attributable to bungee operators rigorously conforming to standards and guidelines governing jumps, such as double checking calculations and fittings for every jump. As with any sport, injuries can still occur (see below), and there have been fatalities. A relatively common mistake in fatality cases is to use a cord that is too long. The cord should be substantially shorter than the height of the jumping platform to allow it room to stretch. When the cord reaches its natural length the jumper either starts to slow down or keeps accelerating depending upon the speed of descent. One may not even start to slow until the cord has been stretched a significant amount, because the cord’s resistance to distortion is zero at the natural length, and increases only gradually after, taking some time to even equal the jumper’s weight. See also Potential energy for a discussion of the spring constant and the force required to distort bungee cords and other spring-like objects.

Safety and Equipment

Most deaths from bungee jumping occur because harnesses were not put on correctly. Therefore, it is important to have professionals help you put on your harness even if you are not a beginner. That means that you should go to a company or a club that specializes in bungee jumping. Make sure the club is certified by a government agency, such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration or the British Elastic Rope Sports Association.
One of the most important services clubs provide is taking your height and weight measurements. This helps them fit equipment properly.
Ankle harnesses are usually secured to both legs, and they are often used in conjunction with other harnesses, especially body harnesses. When using ankle harnesses, it is best to have your body facing the line of the cord, especially when the cord becomes tight, or you could risk breaking your ankles.
Body harnesses are often attached to the stomach area to allow people freedom of movement with their arms and legs. This type of harness is similar to what people use when they are climbing. Another type of harness is the shoulder, or arm, harness. However, this should not be used by itself. Doing so would put your full weight on your arms, which could lead to a shoulder dislocation or other arm injury.
Along with fitting harnesses, professionals take steps to ensure a location is safe for jumping. Such work includes ensuring that the bungee cord is anchored properly and other equipment, including airbags, is used as needed.
For a safe jump, it is essential that the bungee cord is tied off in a secure location, one that is stable and will not be affected by added weight. Steel railings or safety fences often make good places from which to anchor. Professionals also will make sure that the bungee cord is tied with weight-bearing knots that will stay in place when gravity is pulling jumpers downward.
In some locations, companies may place airbags, webbing or slings at the bottom of a jump space to guarantee the safety of jumpers. For inexperienced jumpers, locations with airbags and webbing can provide a safer place to start.
Some companies may call off jumps due to inclement weather: Equipment may not work properly in rain, snow and other types of weather. Poor visibility and unstable wind conditions also increase the risk of injury.

Pop Culture

Bungee jumping scenes can be found in many major motion pictures, including “GoldenEye” and “Selena.” Bungee jumping also has been part of television shows, especially reality shows such as MTV’s “Road Rules.” Bungee trampolines, which are found at community fairs and midways, allow a participant to jump on a trampoline while getting a boost from attached bungee cords.

Warning

There are many possible bungee jumping injuries. Miscalculating a cord’s elasticity, a faulty harness, or an improper connection to the jump platform can all cause injury. A bungee jumper can get hurt if the cord gets tangled with his body. A jumper may suffer rope burn, dislocated joints, bruises, whiplash, pinched fingers and injuries to his back. There have been several deaths attributed to bungee jumping. If you are elderly, children, pregnant women, patients, please do not try.

It’s The Best Time to Play Kite with Your Families

Playing Kite with your families and friends in Spring is a good recreation way and sports. This is not only a chance to touch with the nature, but also a good way of enjoy life.

Kite as a Chinese invention, has been praised as the forerunner of the modern aeroplane. They began there use in the military’s of China and then became and intricate part of their arts and entertainment.Chinese kites became so popular they spread worldwide. Now they are used for art, competition and even sports like surfing.

Most ancient Chinese butterfly kites were made from carefully chosen bamboo and silk cloth. However, light-weight paper or tissue is sometimes used as a sail material.

The weight and strength of the sail material, whether tissue or silk, must be matched to the size of the kite being made. The sails are made slightly over-size, with the excess material folded over the outline of the kite frame and glued down.

With silk kites, the sail is generally painted after the kite is constructed. The kite frame conveniently holds the silk taut while the brush strokes are applied. However, mass produced silk kite sails are screen printed before being cut out and attached to the kites.

Paper lends itself to having the art work done first, before it is attached to the kite frame. This includes applique, where colored cut-outs are glued to the sail to form a design.

Summarizing the methods, a kite can be hand-painted, screen printed, appliqued, or even a combination of these.

My family and I enjoy the art of Chinese kite making. There’s nothing more gratifying that seeing the kite you made in flight. Kite Crafts teach kids construction abilities, problem solving, patience and art all in one easy to do project. Kites are the foundation for many great inventions we see today, such as the Airplane, ever heard of it? Chinese kites are where it all started!

Are You A Climbing Fan?

rock-climbing
Rock climbing was recognized as an elegant, civilized, high-level sports and leisure activities. With the continuous development of social economy, and  people’s living standard rising, the movement is gradually being more accepted and loved by young people.
If you come to China and as a climbing fan, you can not miss Yang shuo, the best place for climbing. The heavily-eroded limestone offers wonderful settings as well as a wide range of hand and foot holds. The sheer variety that is available is enough to tempt any climber here, and many do find it hard to leave again.

There are several rock-climbing operators in town. Standards vary and it is worth getting local advice, especially if you are a total beginner. At least ask about about qualifications and take a look at how the equipment is stored. Ropes are your lifeline, and should be treated with total respect at all times. Walk away if you see these tossed casually on the floor. You should be provided with a helmet, and should wear it, especially at the bottom of the crag where loose bits of stone tend to get knocked down.

Becoming a mountain climbing guide requires a serious amount of training and experience.
1.Climb regularly. Go mountain climbing and skiing as often as you can on many different ranges. The more experience you can garner, the easier it is to take the necessary guide exams.
2.Take a mountaineering course. Some guide services such as Alpine Ascents International lead classes, or take courses the American Mountain Guides Association offers.

3.Receive certification from the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) and the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations by enrolling in courses and passing the necessary exams.

4.Seek employment with guide services, or become an individual mountain climbing guide. Some may not like the more restricted atmosphere working for a guide service, or the lower pay. It is up to the individual.
5.Read books on teaching. Develop some routines and exercises that you are comfortable with. You’ll need them to work with your clients and to evaluate their skills.

6.Prepare to spend time with people from many different walks of life. Be patient, supportive and make the client feel a part of the mountain climbing expedition, not simply a person on the end of a rope.

skateboard

Skateboard game is a popular sports and relaxing way. Many young and child like this game very much. You can take your children to playing skateboard in the weekend. It must be a pleasure day.

Skateboarding is a lot like dancing, especially when there is music in the background. But a dancer doesn’t just settle for dancing or call it exercise. During a dancer’s time off, they engage in a clean and healthy lifestyle which includes exercising.

Think about an exercise that’s easy and that you can do everyday, at least 3 to 5 times per day. This can be jogging around the park or your neighborhood, push ups, sit ups, weight lifting or joining your local gym.Make sure that you stretch or do a mini exercise routine before skateboarding. Before beginning any exercise routine, no matter how old or young or what shape you are in, make sure that you consult your physician.

However, it’s also an activity that causes many unintentional injuries.

  • Give your board a safety check each time before you ride.
  • Always wear safety gear.
  • Never ride in the street
