A New Way of Shopping——Using Your Smartphone

Tags: , , , ,

Do you think it is so troublesome to go to the supermarket after the whole day’s tiring works. The supermarket is so crowded that we would lose a lot of time. These does bring us unhappiness. But now,South Korean has the different way to buy what they wanted without going to the supermarket.

Global grocery retailer Tesco has been testing a new virtual way to shop, making use of the increasingly popular QR code. Their experiment allowed South Korean customers to shop at Tesco’s Home Plus supermarket, without the need for them to actually enter any store at all.

The alternative shopping experience lets commuters on a South Korean subway use their smartphone to grab a range of everyday groceries. A wall in a subway station was decorated with a range of images, all showing food, drink, and other daily essentials; all “shoppers” (if you want to call them that) had to do was scan a QR code of a desired product, and it was instantly added to their virtual shopping basket, ready for home delivery.

Tesco sees its move into the “virtual” shopping space as a way for the company to get more customers without having to build more brick and mortar stores.

It’s a clever and very visually engaging idea, and one things for sure: all those travelling on the subway will have time to kill whilst waiting for their train, so why not get the weekly grocery shopping done while you’re waiting? The only down side to this: It’s a very hands-off way to get your grocery shopping done; I like to see and get a feel for what I’m buying.

Would you get your grocery shopping with just your smartphone?

The Wrong Way Of Diet Makes You Fat

Tags: , , , , ,

Are you sitting in front of the computer and reading this article now? Puts your hands on your belly, and feel how fat your belly is.You may think that i do not eat much and i am not a gourmet, but why i became a fat man? From a scientific point of view, your diet may has some problems.Next,i will help you know the myths of your diet that make you fat.

Image Detail

1.The more you work out, the better. You already know that exercise is one of the best things you can do to maintain your weight and boost your overall health, but overdoing it can actually have the opposite effect. “Working out seven days a week can weaken our immune system, strain our joints, and tire us out,” Snyderman says. “Your muscles need time to repair so they can be more efficient during your next session.” And if you’re exercising with improper form due to fatigue, you’ll actually burn fewer calories than if you were exercising correctly, she says. To prevent workout burnout, schedule at least one day off a week, and change things up a bit each session—by doing arm weights one day, say, and leg moves the next—to avoid overusing one set of muscles. Be sure to keep your back straight and not to lean on the handles of cardio equipment, to prevent injury and maximize calorie burn.

2.Muscle weighs more than fat. If you’ve been working out and the scale reading is higher than you’d like, it’s tempting to tell yourself, “Well, that’s just muscle weight.” After all, muscle’s heavier than fat, right? Not so much: There’s no such thing as “muscle weight,” Snyderman says. A pound of muscle and a pound of fat both weigh…a pound! But because muscle is more dense than fat, having more muscle on your frame than fat makes you look leaner. And there’s another benefit: One pound of muscle burns an estimated 50 calories a day, while a pound of fat burns about two calories a day—so the leaner you get, the higher your metabolic rate. “Aerobic exercise, like biking and running, sheds fat, while weight-lifting helps build muscle mass,” Snyderman says. “Doing both is a surefire way to rev up your metabolism.”

3.Fresh fruits and veggies are more nutritious than frozen or canned. Frozen and canned produce can be equally as healthful as—and even more economical than—the fresh stuff, Snyderman says. Frozen fruits and vegetables are often flash-frozen straight off the vine, which helps them retain nutrients. And some canned produce is actually more nutritious than the fresh, raw kind, since we absorb antioxidants like the lycopene found in tomatoes and the beta-carotene contained in carrots more easily when they come from veggies that have been cooked. Bottom line: “It doesn’t matter how you get your fruits and vegetables, as long as you’re eating them,” Snyderman says.

4.Weight gain is inevitable as you get older. “This myth stems from the fact that belly fat begins to creep on as we get older, but a bulge is avoidable,” Snyderman says. Most of that fat isn’t gained—it’s weight that’s shifted due to hormone changes, childbirth, or weakening bones. And you can slow the shift with strength training, according to a study from the National Institutes of Health: Overweight and obese women who lifted weights just twice a week saw a smaller increase in intra-abdominal fat (7 percent over two years) than those who didn’t exercise (their intra-abdominal fat went up 21 percent in two years). The sooner you start pumping iron, the easier it is to keep that belly trim down the road.

5.Yo-yo dieting wrecks your metabolism. It’s become common wisdom that depriving yourself of food—a.k.a. dieting—puts you into “starvation mode,” in which you burn fewer calories because your body needs to hold on to what little nutrition it’s getting; over time, the theory goes, your metabolism slows down for good. But “while extreme low-calorie diets do temporarily lower your metabolism, the effects don’t last,” Snyderman says. Researchers in Canada compared the resting metabolic rates of women who’d yo-yo dieted for an average of 18 years with what their metabolism should be for their height, weight, and age—and found no difference in 92 percent of the subjects. “Yo-yo diets don’t hurt you, but they do frustrate you because they mean you haven’t found the right way to keep the weight off,” says Snyderman.

6.You need to lose a significant amount of weight to see any health benefits. Meeting your weight-loss goal can be daunting, especially when you have a double-digit amount to lose. But shedding even just a few pounds can have a huge impact on your health. For every two pounds of excess weight you lose, your cholesterol drops an average of 3 points. And in a study from the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research, men and women were able to bring their blood pressure down after losing as few as nine pounds. “Our bodies can tell when we lose weight, even when it’s a minimal amount, and they adjust very quickly,” Snyderman says. “So even if you have a significant amount of weight to lose, taking it a few pounds at a time will boost your overall health—and make your ultimate goal more manageable.”

The Funny Game:Roller skating

Tags: ,

Can you roller skate?I can skate, but i am not a master.I can just skate forward, not backward.Absolutely, roller skating is a good form of outdoor sports.Next,i will give a detailed introduction for you.

Roller skating is the traveling on smooth surfaces with roller skates. It is a form of recreation as well as a sport, and can also be a form of transportation. Skates generally come in two basic varieties: quad roller skates and inline skates or blades, though some have experimented with a single-wheeled “quintessence skate” or other variations on the basic skate design. In America, this hobby was most popular in the 1970s and the 1990s.

History

When you consider the history of roller skating you must first trace back the origin of the first pair of roller skates. The first known roller skate was invented in London, England by a Belgium born man named Joseph Merlin. Merlin’s roller skate was not a quad skate, but rather an inline skate with small metal wheels. Consequently, Joseph Merlin was also an accomplished violinist and violin maker. In 1760, as the story goes, Joseph Merlin was invited to perform for an audience at a masquerade party at the prestigious Carlisle House Mansion in Sofo Square, London. Merlin’s intent was to impress the crowd by playing his violin while skating on his newly invented roller skates. The festivities were progressing quiet well until Joseph Merlin accidentally skated into an expensive mirror, breaking the mirror and his violin, and injuring himself. Needless to say Joseph Merlin’s performance did not successfully generate an enormous amount of interest in roller skating!

In 1819, nearly 60 years later, a Frenchman named Monsieur Petitbled invented, and officially patented his new roller skate design. Monsieur Petitbled’s roller skates were also in-line skates with three wheels made of wood, metal or deluxe ivory. Petitbled tried to sell the public the idea that a person could do anything on his roller skates that could be done on a pair of ice skates. Unfortunately for Monsieur Petitbled he was unable to convince a skeptical public, and his roller skates did not fair well on the market.

The next roller skate patent came in 1823 by an Englishman named John Tyers. John Tyers’ patented roller skate was known as the Volito. Tyers’ Volito roller skates consisted of five wheels in a line with the center wheel larger than the two wheels on either side. His roller skate design obviously required the skater to tilt the foot forwards or backwards to grip the surface for pushing off. Tyler’s Volito was also unique in that his design introduced the first roller skate brake. His roller skate’s brakes consisted of a metal toe stop in the front, and a metal stop in the heel; this allowed the skater to stop by leaning sharply in either direction. Unfortunately for John Tyers, and the sport of roller skating, his roller skates did not create a world-wide appreciation for roller skating. However, some of the expert ice skaters of the day proved that a skater could perform many of the same moves on his roller skates, that could’ve only been performed previously on a pair of ice skates.

By the 1860s the idea of roller skating had reached America, and in 1863 a young inventor named James Leonard Plimpton created a new, and superior type of roller skate. His roller skates allowed the skater to steer the skates in different directions. We would consider

Plimpton an out of the box thinker as he moved away from the known “in-line” roller skates of his day. He built his skate with two wheels in the front and two in the back, much like the quad roller skates you’d find today. Plimpton’s wheels were mounted on carriages that rotated when the skater’s foot leaned to one side or the other. This feature allowed for smoother turns, and significantly enhanced the skater’s capability to skate backwards. Lastly, Plimpton’s roller skates provided the skater a superior glide when compared to the other roller skates of his time.

James Plimpton did far more to promote roller skating than designing an outstanding roller skate. Plimpton built a large roller skating rink in New York City, and Newport, Rhode Island. He also made it easier for anyone to roller skate by leasing his roller skates to his customers. Additionally, Plimpton developed an effective system for teaching group roller skating lessons, and provided incentives by creating proficiency medals. In 1863 he founded the nation’s first roller skating association, the New York Roller Skating Association. He also hired Jackson Haines, a famous ballet dancer and excellent skater, to put on shows to help promote his roller skates and the sport as a whole. James Plimpton successfully changed the way people thought about roller skating, and is considered by some the founding father of modern day roller skating.

Over the years there were various improvements made to Plimpton’s roller skate; from the use of ball bearings, to the first all metal skate. However, it wasn’t until roller skates were mass produced near the end of the 1800s that the average working class person could afford them. During this period the price of a pair of roller skates dropped to half the price of Plimpton’s hand-crafted roller skate. The mass production of roller skates was most certainly instrumental in ushering in a whole new market and generation of skaters.

Quite naturally this generation of skaters began looking for new things to do on their roller skates. Artistic roller skating experienced a surge in popularity as a spin-off (no pun intended) of figure skating sometime in the 1880-1890s. Roller hockey began to be played on roller skates using the rules for field hockey; roller hockey was called polo at this time. Speed skating also quickly increased in popularity, and drew large crowds in New York and other large cities in the US and Europe.

Roller skating in all forms continued to become more popular and expand as a recreational pastime in the early 1900s. However, roller skating suffered a decline during and following WWI. After the war more people began driving cars, going to movie theaters and turning to other forms of entertainment. Roller skating experienced a surge during the Great Depression because it was relatively inexpensive, and more accessible to the average person. In 1937 the Roller Skating Rink Operators Association was formed; today we know it as the Roller Skating Association.

Roller skating steadily grew in popularity over the next three decades then exploded in the 1970s. In the 1970s roller skating was no longer considered by many as a mere recreational pastime, but rather a very cool thing to do!  It was during this time that roller skating and disco music teamed up to create a craze that captivated much of America. Thousands of roller skaters became involved in artistic, figure, dance, speed, roller derby, and freestyle roller skating. Various types of formal roller skating competitions were held, outdoor roller skating became very popular, and the public simply couldn’t get enough! The 1970s was definitely the decade for roller skating.

During the 1980s the roller skating craze waned significantly, but experienced a boost in the mid 1990s when inline skates hit the market full force. Inline skates allowed a far smoother ride outdoors, and became an instant hit with many ice skaters. Ice hockey players, in large numbers, also began playing inline hockey during the off-season. Inline skates also became extremely popular with many people that enjoyed skating for fitness. The ability to inline skate outdoors, over long distances, became a dream come true for fitness skaters all over the world. Lastly, aggressive and jump skating increased in popularity in the 1990s, and created yet another type of skater with its own unique culture.

Roller skating has come a long way since its introduction to world in the 1700s, and continues to grow and expand with new types of roller skates and roller skating activities. Today it is not uncommon to find people from all walks of life, enjoying various indoor, outdoor, inline, and quad roller skating activities. Roller skating has truly became a pastime, hobby, or sport that people of all ages can enjoy.

Benefits of roller skating

• Studies have shown that roller skating provides a complete aerobic workout and involves all of the body’s muscles, especially the heart.
• Roller skating is equivalent to jogging in terms of health benefits and caloric consumption, reduction of body fat, and leg strength development.
• Roller skating is recognized and recommended by the American Heart Association (AHA) as an aerobic fitness sport.
• Just one hour of moderate roller skating burns 330 calories for a 143-pound person. If that same person roller skates vigorously, he or she will burn up to 590 calories in an hour.
• The number of calories burned per hour while skating at 6 mph is 350 and 600 while skating at 10 mph.
• According to a study conducted at the University of Massachusetts, in-line skating causes less than 50 percent of the impact shock to joints compared to running.
• If someone roller skates one day, bicycles another, and swims or runs on another, the person will be getting all the fitness benefits that aerobics can offer.
• According to Dr. Carl Foster, associate professor of medicine at the University of Wisconsin Medical School, in-line skating as a form of exercise is as beneficial as running or cycling. (Information from International Inline Skating Association website)
• During a 30-minute period, on the average, in-line skating at a steady, comfortable rate expends 285 calories and produces a heart rate of 148 beats per minute.

How to Roller Skate

•The position of the feet is one of the most important considerations to make, at the time of roller skating. The feet should be in the’ V’ position i.e. the heels should be together and the toes far apart.
•As for your body, it should be in an upright position. Bending the back or curved legs are a strict no-no, as they might make you fall on the ground. Also, make sure that you look straight ahead, while skating.
•At the time of commencing skating, bend your knees slightly and spread out the arms, like airplane wings. This posture would help you achieve the right balance required for roller skating.
•Since you are a novice skater, do not plunge for the big thing. Start by taking small baby steps. Walk like soldiers in a march past. However, make sure that every time you place your feet back, they are in the position of the letter ‘V’.
•Once you get hold of the skates and are able to take the small steps easily, without any external help, it is time to try sliding. Slide by pushing your skate out to the side, not to the back, as in walking.
•If your feet are properly placed, you would roll/slide automatically.
•Once you have mastered forward skating, try it backwards. Backwards skating is very similar to forward, except that in this type, you keep your toes together and heels apart, in an inverse ‘V’ position.

Note: Since roller skating activity is primarily based on the balancing act, it is very important for you to wear elbow and knee pads. They would protect you from bruises and scratches.

Don’t stay at home, let’s go outdoor and experience the passion of roller skating!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 will be the second instalment of a two-part film based on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling, and the final film in the Harry Potter series.

“Years ago, we briefly — and seriously — considered doing Goblet of Fire as two films. So this concept is not altogether new. As for Deathly Hallows, I intuited — almost from the first moments I began reading it and certainly once I’d finished — that to realize the story in a single film was going to be a tall order. Others in ‘the group’ felt similarly. So the idea of two films began to get kicked around as early as late summer of 2007. We didn’t take it lightly. But ultimately everyone felt that despite the challenges it would present, it was the most sound creative decision.
I’m sure some will think we’re crazy. My wife looked at me cross-eyed when I first mentioned it. But I’m really excited about it because it should allow us to stretch a bit with the characters and give them the proper send-off. The story is highly emotional and those moments deserve time to breathe. And, personally, I feel we owe it to Jo — in order to preserve the integrity of the work — and the fans — for their loyalty all these years — to give them the best and most complete experience possible.”
David Yates, who directed the preceding two films, is directing both parts, with Steve Kloves returning to script. The first part was released internationally on November 18 2010 and the following day in the United Kingdom and the United States, with the second scheduled for release on 15 July 2011. Production of the two films occurred concurrently, and treated as if it were one film. The idea to split the films had been around since the middle of 2007,but only really came into serious consideration after producer David Heyman was able to talk to writer Steve Kloves when the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike ended and Heyman had Rowling’s approval.

On 12 March, 2008, Warner Bros. additionally confirmed that the film would be split into two, to do justice to the book.David Yates, director of Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince will return to direct and Steve Kloves is going to write the screenplay. According to Warner Bros. executive Alan F. Horn it will allow “an extra hour and a half to celebrate what this franchise has been and do justice to all the words and ideas in the amazing story.” Heyman described the workings behind the split: “Deathly Hallows is so rich, the story so dense and there is so much that is resolved that, after discussing it with Rowling, we came to the conclusion that two parts were needed.” Due to the WGA strike, Kloves was not able to start work on the script until it ended.

Before David Yates was officially chosen to direct the film, others had expressed an interest in the job. Alfonso Cuaron, director of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, had said that he would be “tempted” to return to direct.Guillermo del Toro, who passed on Prisoner of Azkaban, had expressed interest in directing Deathly Hallows, but an increased workload ruled him out of the project.

Heyman noted that the films will be a closer recreation of the books than the previous films because of the length a two-part adaptation entails.Daniel Radcliffe said: “This is a road film, particularly in Part One of the film. People have been so used to seeing Harry Potter at Hogwarts and we’re just not there for the first part of the film. That seems to have really freshened things up, and hopefully will get people seeing the films with fresh eyes again, because it’s just a totally different look when you’re not just sat in the same room the whole time.”

Although Yates had retained composer Nicholas Hooper for Half-Blood Prince, John Williams (who composed the scores to the first three films) had expressed interest in returning to score the film – however he did not state which part he would be contributing to. In January 2010 Alexandre Desplat, a French composer, was confirmed to produce the score for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I.In November 2010 it was confirmed that Alexandre Desplat (despite many fans wanting Williams) would compose the second part. Yates and Heyman have noted that some of the events of this film had an effect on the way the sixth film was written.

The first part of Deathly Hallows will end as Voldemort retrieves the Elder Wand from Albus Dumbledore’s tomb. This would mean that the beginning of this film would be the trio planning the Gringott’s Break-in.

In the wake of the success of the 3-D film Avatar in late 2009, Warner Bros. announced that the Deathly Hallows films will be converted to 3-D for showing in 3-D.However, the first film was not released in 3-D due to time constraints.

Breaking news:Yao will retire!

Before Yao Ming retirement rumors have been passed for a long time. I did not expect, but now have become a reality. While many fans could not bear that Yao Ming left the court, but his body has not allowed him to stay. He made the right choice.we thank that him brought us a lot of exciting moments befroe. What we have to do is to bless him, we bless his life even colourful without basketball!

Image Detail

Houston Rockets center Yao Ming has decided to retire after nine NBA seasons, Yahoo! Sports and the Houston Chronicle have reported, citing league sources.

Yao’s contract had expired after this past season with the Rockets, who have missed the playoffs the last two seasons.

They played nearly all of that time without Yao as he battled various injuries. He was limited to five games last season after missing all of 2009-10.

“We’d all be really happy if Yao comes back to play, and I hope he can,” new Rockets coach Kevin McHale said when he was introduced last month. “I think he’ll give it his best shot. His body is going to dictate if he can come back and play. That’s all going to be laid out in the future.

“But who wouldn’t like Yao Ming, a big guy who can really make shots, just a huge force in the middle? That’s out of my control. We’ll see where that goes.”

In May, the 7-foot-6 Chinese star, plagued by lower-body injuries in the second half of his career, said his surgically repaired left ankle was healing properly and he wanted to remain with the Rockets. The Rockets said they were interested in re-signing him if he came back healthy.

But Yao, who had surgery in January, said he wouldn’t know until this summer if he’d be able to play again. He became a restricted free agent July 1.

Yahoo! Sports reported he has informed the league office he is retiring.

But NBA spokesman Tim Frank said that was not the case.

“We have not received official notification of his retirement,” he said.

Recently retired center Shaquille O’Neal congratulated Yao in an online video post.

“We’re going to miss you, bro,” O’Neal said. “You’re one of the greatest players ever to come out of China. You’re one of the greatest players, period. I’m going to miss you, brother. Enjoy retirement. Let’s go on vacation, bro. Me and you.”

The Rockets declined to comment on the report because of the lockout, and the NBA has not received official retirement paperwork from Yao.

John Huizinga, one of Yao’s American agents, would not confirm the report during a phone interview on Friday. He said Yao’s recovery was “on track,” but Yao’s future with the Rockets has been uncertain for some time.

“He’s really enjoyed his time in Houston,” Huizinga said. “If he feels that he’s recovered enough to play, and if the lockout ever ends, and if the Rockets are interested in him, then there’s certainly a good chance he’ll stay in Houston.

“But there are a whole lot of ‘ifs’ in that statement.”

An eight-time All-Star selection, Yao averaged 19 points and 9.2 rebounds in his eight seasons, but his impact on the league goes far beyond the numbers.

Yao single-handedly expanded the NBA’s reach throughout Asia, spiking merchandise sales and TV ratings for games after the Rockets made him the top overall pick in the 2002 draft.

Marc Ganis, president of Chicago-based consultancy SportsCorp, said Yao’s worldwide impact on the league will probably never be duplicated by another player.

“There’s never been anything like him before,” Ganis said, “and I doubt we’ll ever see anything like him again.”

Ganis said Yao became an iconic symbol of China’s growth and status. He carried the Olympic torch through Tiananmen Square and proudly carried his country’s flag during the opening ceremonies in Beijing in 2008.

He also donated $2 million and set up a foundation to rebuild schools in the wake of the 2008 earthquake in Sichuan.

“He was the embodiment of the cultural aspirations of the Chinese society,” Ganis said. “He always talked about ‘team,’ always talked about sacrifice, always talked about those who needed help.”

Yao was already a larger-than-life national hero in China when he joined the Rockets. He played for the Chinese national team in the six summers before he joined the NBA.

Skeptics doubted Yao was ready for the league, but he made the All-Rookie team after averaging 13.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.74 blocks in 82 games. He was the only rookie to lead his team in both rebounds and blocks, and the only rookie to rank in the top 20 in three statistical categories.

Yao helped the Rockets reach the playoffs in the next two seasons. Houston acquired versatile star Tracy McGrady before the 2004-05 season, and the franchise envisioned the duo as the cornerstones of a championship team.

The Rockets lost first-round series in seven games in both 2005 and 2007. Yao and McGrady both started encountering injury problems in the seasons that followed.

Yao played in 77 games in the 2008-09 season and with McGrady sidelined, helped Houston reach the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 1997.

But Yao broke his left foot in a postseason game against the Lakers and underwent complex surgery that sidelined him for the entire 2009-10 season. He lasted only five games at the start of the 2010-11 season before breaking his left ankle. He underwent surgery in January, and was lost for the season again.

Yao, who turns 31 in September, missed a total of 250 regular-season games over the past six seasons due mostly to injuries to his left foot and leg.

The Rockets missed the playoffs for the second straight season in 2010-11, parted ways with coach Rick Adelman and hired Kevin McHale. McHale said Yao’s future with the team was contingent on his health.

“We’d all be really happy if Yao comes back to play, and I hope he can,” McHale said. “I think he’ll give it his best shot. His body is going to dictate if he can come back and play. That’s all going to be laid out in the future.”

Ganis said the NBA’s popularity in China may never be the same without Yao.

“There was a fascination, with Yao Ming and the Chinese fans,” Ganis said. “It was almost like the Michael Jordan effect. The casual fans that Jordan brought to the NBA, when he retired, they simply disappeared.

“That doesn’t mean there isn’t interest, that doesn’t mean there isn’t significantly higher, long-term interest in the NBA there. But the numbers the NBA attracted, in Yao Ming’s heyday, will never be reached again — unless there’s another Yao Ming around the corner.”

Chinese Famous Dog——Pekingese

Tags: , , ,

Do you love dogs?Dogs are human’s friends forever, because they could accompany us and they konw what feelings we have.Next,i will introduce one of the chinese famous dogs——Pekingese.

Image Detail

The Pekingese, Pekinese or “Peke” (also commonly referred to as a “Lion Dog”, or “Pelchie Dog” due to their resemblance to Chinese guardian lions) is an ancient breed of toy dog, originating in China. They were the favored pet of the Chinese Imperial court, and the name relates to the city of Beijing where the Forbidden City resides. The breed has several characteristics and health issues related to its unique appearance. Because of its desirable characteristics, the Pekingese has been part of the development of designer crossbreeds, such as the Pekeatese.

History of Pekingese

The breed originated in China in antiquity, in the city of Peking. Recent DNA analysis confirms that the Pekingese breed is one of the oldest breeds of dog, one of the least genetically diverged from the wolf. For centuries, they could be owned only by members of the Chinese Imperial Palace.

During the Second Opium War, in 1860, the Forbidden City was occupied by a contingent of British and French troops. The Emperor Xianfeng had fled with all of his court to Chengde. However, an elderly aunt of the emperor remained. When the “foreign devils” (Europeans) entered, she committed suicide. She was found with her five Pekingese mourning her passing. They were removed by the Allies before the palace was burnt to the ground.

Lord John Hay took a pair, later called “Schloff”, and “Hytien” and gave them to his sister, the Duchess of Wellington, wife of Henry Wellesley, 3rd Duke of Wellington. Sir George Fitzroy took another pair, and gave them to his cousins, the Duke and Duchess of Richmond and Gordon. Lieutenant Dunne presented the fifth Pekingese to Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom, who named it Looty.

The Empress Dowager Cixi presented Pekingese to several Americans, including John Pierpont Morgan and Alice Lee Roosevelt Longworth, daughter of Theodore Roosevelt, who named it Manchu. The first Pekingese in Ireland was introduced by Dr. Heuston. He established smallpox vaccination clinics in China. The effect was dramatic. In gratitude, the Chinese minister, Li Hongzhang presented him with a pair of Pekingese. They were named Chang and Lady Li. Dr. Heuston founded the Greystones kennel.

Around the turn of the century, Pekingese dogs became popular in Western countries. They were owned by such arbiters of fashion as Queen Alexandra of the United Kingdom, and Elsie de Wolfe, popular American interior decorator.

Temperament

An ancient toy breed, the Pekingese is an excellent watchdog who thinks he is far larger and braver than he really is. They are distrusting of strangers, and will bark at unusual noises. (However, they are generally not nuisance barkers.) The Pekingese has a high opinion of himself, and he can be protective of his owner to the point of being possessive. He will need to be trained so that this protective instinct does not turn into aggression. It takes a patient person to train a Pekingese, because they are stubborn and opinionated. They can be quite difficult to housetrain. The Pekingese has low exercise needs, but still enjoys walks. Because of the shape of their nose, they cannot handle extreme temperatures. Be careful when they exercise that they don’t overheat. Also, they must never be left out in the sun. They are hardier than their reputation lets on, and they don’t mind going out for a romp in the rain. Of course, you are the one who will have to clean them afterwards. They don’t need much space to be happy and can live contentedly in an apartment or a mansion. They can do well with other animals, but it really depends on the specific dog. Just know that all Pekingese are fearless, so a larger stronger dog can pose a serious threat. Some Pekingese do well with children. Others do not. Pekingese are small, and their large, beautiful eyes are very sensitive to the picked fingers of a toddler. Many breeders will not let a Pekingese go to a home with a small child. Your Pekingese will love to show off and will prance around trying to impress you. An independent little character, he can entertain himself for hours with a toy. But he also loves your attention. The Pekingese is an affectionate dog who will take pride in being your favorite companion. But consider yourself warned: he will snore, snort, sneeze and snuffle.

Appearance

The Pekingese breed is over 2000 years old and has hardly changed in all that time. One exception is that modern breeders and dog-show judges seem to prefer the long-haired type over the more-traditional spaniel-type coat.

The Pekingese’s flat face is one of the breed’s most obvious characteristics. The body is compact and low to the ground. Pekingese also have a muscular and durable body The legs are noticeably bowed and restrict the Pekingese’s movement. The Peke’s unusual rolling gait may have been deliberately bred to prevent the court dogs from wandering.

CoatA Pekingese has a double coat. Trimming the coat is discouraged in show dogs. The Pekingese has a noticeable mane and feathering around the ears, tail and legs.

All breed standards allow all sorts of color combinations. The majority of Pekingese are gold, red or sable. Light gold, cream, black, white, sables, black and tan and occasionally ‘blue’ or slate grey have appeared in the breed. The latter often has poor pigment and light eyes. Albino Pekingese (white with pink eyes) should be bred cautiously due to health problems that have been associated with albinism.

A black mask or a self-colored face is equally acceptable in show dogs. Regardless of coat color the exposed skin of the muzzle, nose, lips and eye rims is black.

SizePekes weigh from 7 to 14 lb (3.2 to 6.4 kg) and stand about 6–9 inches (15–23 cm) at the withers, however they can sometimes be smaller. These smaller Pekes are commonly referred to as “Sleeve” Pekingese or just “Sleeves”. The name is taken from ancient times, when emperors would carry the smallest of the breed in their sleeves. A Pekingese over 14 pounds is disqualified in the show ring.

The Pekingese is slightly longer than tall when measured from the forechest to the buttocks. The overall outline is an approximate ratio of 3 high to 5 long.

Grooming and Exercise

Daily combing and brushing of the very long, double coat is essential. Take extra care around the hindquarters, which can become solid and matted. Females shed the undercoat when in season. Dry shampoo regularly. Clean the face and eyes daily and check the hairy feet for burrs and objects that stick there. These dogs are average shedders.

Pekingese need a daily walk, where the dog is made to heel beside or behind the person holding the lead, as instinct tells a dog the leader leads the way, and that leader needs to be the human.  Play will take care of a lot of their exercise needs, however, as with all breeds, play will not fulfill their primal instinct to walk. Dogs who do not get to go on daily walks are more likely to display behavior problems. They will also enjoy a good romp in a safe open area off lead, such as a large fenced in yard. Get your Pek accustomed to the leash when they are still a puppy. Some owners have told me their Pek will walk up to 4 miles on a nightly walk.

Is this dog cute?If you own this lovely dog,i believe that your life will be more colourful.Feeding Pekingese is not complex, he will be your loyal friend.

1、Huaguo Mountain

Hua Guo Mountain, which literally means Flowers and Fruits Mountain, is commonly known as the birthplace and home of the ancient Chinese legendary figure, Monkey King. He is one of the heroes of the Chinese classic novel Journey to the West, written during the Ming Dynasty circa 1500-1582 by Wu Cheng’en. For the Chinese, Monkey King is a symbol of wisdom, courage, strength and loyalty.
Journey to the West is one of the four most famous literary works in Chinese history. It is based upon a true story about a monk named Xuan Zang, who lived in the 7th century during the Tang Dynasty and went on a quest to India by foot to seek the Buddhist sutras. The Monkey King is one of Xuan Zang’s four disciples. With great magical powers, wisdom and strength, he and his three fellow protectors provide support to their master. During their journey the team undergoes eighty-one challenges before finally achieving their goal of obtaining the sutras.
Hua Guo Mountain is located in the Hua Guo Scenic Area, seven kilometers from downtown Lianyungang. Four centuries ago, Wu Cheng’en, author of Journey to the West, came to Lianyungang from his hometown Huai’an, also located in Jiangsu Province. He visited the mountain several times and was charmed by its beautiful scenery. On Jade Goddess Peak, which is the highest point on the mountain, is a large rock measuring five meters high and seven meters wide. In the center of the rock is a crevice that holds an oval-shaped stone that measures one meter long and looks like it is about to fall out at any moment. This rock is where Wu Cheng’en chose to be the birthplace of Monkey King.
There is much to see on the mountain, but the caves are truly memorable. Among the hundreds of caves, Water Curtain Cave is the most notable not only because of its spectacular natural beauty but also because it is featured in Journey to the West as Monkey King’s home. According to the novel, the Monkey King was born out of a rock near Water Curtain Cave where he later lived and played with the other monkeys that reside on the mountain. The mouth of Water Curtain Cave is actually a large crack with has a waterfall cascading over it (like a curtain), and on both sides of the waterfall there are carved inscriptions. Other caves are the Fox Demon Cave, Worm Demon Cave, Two Immortals Cave and General Cave.
Other attractions include the Yunu Peak (Jade Goddess Peak), South Gate of Heaven, and Asoka Pagoda. There are also many strangely shaped rocks that resemble the characters described in the novel, such as the monk Xuan Zang, Pigsy, Friar Sand, Stone Monkey and White Bone Demon.
Jade Goddess Peak is the highest peak on Hua Guo Mountain, and is in fact the highest in the whole of Jiangsu Province. Visitors can watch the sunrise from a pavilion on the peak and view the Sea of Clouds, where the clouds roll in and cover the mountain like waves on the sea. In addition, there are lots of wild monkeys romping around on the peak. But be careful! They are lively and naughty, and you can take photos with them, but keep food carefully hidden, or those greedy monkeys will grab them right out of your hand!
The South Gate of Heaven also refers to the Journey of the West, in that it is said to be the outer door of the Jade Emperor’s Lingxiao Palace in Heaven. Each time the Monkey King encountered difficulties he will enter through this gate and ask for help from the gods.
First built in the Song Dynasty (960 – 1279), Asoka Pagoda in Haiqing Temple is about forty meters (about 131 feet) high. It is the oldest and highest pagoda in existence in northern Jiangsu Province, and has even withstood an 8.5 magnitude earthquake. Asoka was a ruler of the Mauryan Dynasty in the 3rd Century BC, who waged some of the bloodiest wars in Indian history. He was later overcome by remorse for the death and destruction he had unleashed, and went on to become a religious visionary, spreading the word of Buddha.

2、Yuwan Scenic Area

Yuwan Scenic Area, with its green mountains and clear waters, is a place of picturesque charm that is part of the Yuntai Mountain Range of Lianyungang. This region, together with other tourist attractions including the Donglei Stone Sea and Liandao Beach, is a popular place for travelers to enjoy themselves. The simple and honest folk culture combined with the natural beauty of the landscape make Yuwan an attractive tourist destination. Yuwan Scenic Area is filled with many chances to enjoy the wonder of nature, with sites that include quiet gorges, lush forests, gurgling brooks and cascading waterfalls.
During the Qing Dynasty, this area was simply a bay for fishermen to anchor their boats and to shelter them from the wind and waves. It was not only a good harbor to fish but also a place for the bypassing ships to re-stock their supplies of grain and water. It was not until 1668 that a sudden earthquake pushed the coastline into the mountain, resulting in a piece of land jutting out of the water. That land is now Yuwan Scenic Area.
Through years of effort, the Yuwan Scenic Area has become one of the most attractive sites for tourists with its well-protected natural environment. Its waterfalls, natural ponds, caves, running springs, and much more, provide the opportunity for relaxation and entertainment. The waterfall near the Old Dragon Pool is the biggest in Jiangsu Province, with a drop that is almost 40 meters.

3、Donghai Crystal and Hot Spring

Donghai, a city located in the prefecture of Lianyungang, is most well-known in China for two things: hot spring and crystals.
Donghai Hot Springs
The hot springs in Donghai consist of geothermal water that could reach a temperature as high as With well-known hot spring resorts, Donghai has managed to attract thousands of tourists from China and abroad each year. As early as the Ming and Qing dynasties, the hot springs had been renowned throughout China and are still a popular destination today.
Having a hot spring bath is reinvigorating, refreshing, and beneficial to the health. The hot springs are known to be therapeutic and are recommended as treatment for a variety of illnesses relating to the joints, skin and nerves. The springs also help to treat high blood pressure, digestive system trouble, diabetes, and many other illnesses. Donghai’s hot springs contain thirty-two different kinds of minerals, mainly potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and radon.
Donghai Crystals:
Donghai has been known throughout China as a major source of crystal for much of its 2,000-year history, and today is able to produce about 800 tons per year. Donghai crystals range in size from small pieces that fit in the palm of the hand to what is known as the Crystal King, a 3.5-ton monster discovered in 1995.
The crystals, not normally sold in raw form, find their way into consumers’ hands as jewelry, glasses, Buddhist icons and also figures from Chinese history and mythology. They range in price from a few RMB for a small crystal ball or pendant to 36,000 RMB (about 5,000USD) for a statue of Guan Yin. In fact, the transparent covering of Chairman Mao’s tomb is made from Donghai crystal.
Quartz crystal has held a special place in Chinese culture over the centuries. The famous Ming Dynasty physician Li Shizhen claimed in his Compendium of Materia Medica that it held sedative properties and could even bring down a fever.
Only a few blocks away from Donghai’s train station lies the Crystal City, Shuijing Cheng in Mandarin, which is an indoor market built in 1992 that houses the Crystal King near its entrance. The craftspeople who make these crystal products sell to both Chinese and foreign buyers.
